Students will then be broken up into small groups and escorted to their respective classrooms by their facilitator. Description: The purpose of the rap session is to build community among men of color students and provide a safe space to discuss issues of masculinity, community, and self-worth, and critically address stereotypes.

Description: The purpose of this session is to work with faculty, staff, and administrators to explore how to reach and mentor male students of color. Participants will discuss challenges/barriers and opportunities for success for this student population at SUNY Broome. As a result of participating in the Session, participants will increase their cultural awareness and sensitivity in order to create more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environments for male students of color and assess existing campus resources and identify new support opportunities.

Description: The workshop is designed to highlight the impact of recent media coverage on African American males in higher education, and to share the different theories and best practices that are used in retaining African American males in institutions across the country.

Faculty/Staff Workshop 3 – “Creating Culturally Inclusive Classrooms”

Description: This workshop will offer assistance for faculty to structure teaching in order to achieve maximum cultural inclusion in their classrooms. Often, students can feel isolated in the classroom, are unsure of how to resolve conflict around contentious issues, and faculty are left wondering how to effectively provide support and engage dialogue.
