Types of Microcredentials
Credit-Bearing
Faculty interested in proposing a new credit-bearing microcredential should refer to the New Microcredential Guidelines (pdf) and New Microcredential Form (docx) to begin the process. Interested faculty should refer to the Curriculum Committee meeting schedule, submission deadlines, and by-laws.

Non-Credit Bearing
Non-credit bearing microcredentials at SUNY Broome are offered through Workforce Development and Continuing Education at SUNY Broome Community College. Earners will develop work readiness skills to meet the demand of industry and local employers.

Develop a New Microcredential
Credit-Bearing
The process for proposing a new credit-bearing Microcredential follows the curriculum approval process, summarized below:
- Academic Department and Academic Department Chairperson Approval
- Division Council & Representative Chairpersons with the Division Council Approval
- Dean & Representative for the Division Approval
- Curriculum Committee Approval
- VP of Academic Affairs Approval
For changes to current microcredentials, faculty should submit the microcredential revisions form following the same approval process outlined above.
Proposing a new for-credit microcredential
Step 1: Review New Microcredential Guidelines (pdf) and discuss your proposal with the Chairperson of your Department. Please refer to these helpful hints (pdf) as you write your content to ensure that all information needed for the SUNY Broome website and the Credly website is present in your document.
Step 2: Complete the New Microcredential Form (docx) for review at each step in the shared governance process.
Step 3: Once the proposal form is approved through the curriculum process, submit a request through MarCom to have the digital badge image created.
Non-Credit Bearing
The process for proposing a new non-credit microcredential would begin with completing the New Non-Credit Microcredential Form (docx). The Form should be submitted for review by:
- Academic Department and Academic Department Chairperson Approval (if applicable)
- Dean or Director for the Division Approval (if applicable)
- Workforce Development and Continuing Education Approval
- VP of Academic Affairs Approval
