The Teaching Resource Center’s Instructional Designers provide pedagogical and technical support to faculty who are creating online, blended or web-supplemented courses and electronic learning materials. They serve as instructional design partners for faculty content experts, collaboratively teaming with faculty, SUNY Broome support staff and members of SUNY Online to assist faculty in the design, development, testing, and support of computer-mediated, asynchronous instructional materials/courses. They conduct workshops, demonstrations, and training sessions for faculty; write documentation to assist faculty in course development; track course development progress, monitor ongoing courses; and troubleshoot problems in technology and course delivery for online courses. The Instructional Designers also collect data about online courses, produce print and online materials for faculty, students and advisors, function as the liaison with SUNY Online and maintain the Online@SUNYBroome Website.
The TRC works closely with faculty to ensure that the quality of SUNY Broome’s online courses mirrors that of courses offered on-campus. Training and support for faculty developing online, blended, and supplemented courses is offered by the Instructional Designers in the Teaching Resource Center. This includes both face-to-face and online training in Brightspace and support for faculty developing and teaching online. Each faculty member developing an online course has an Instructional Designer (ID) as their technical and pedagogical design partner. The IDs help instructors develop pedagogically sound online courses, offer drop-in hours multiple times a week, work one-on-one with faculty by appointment, and respond to email and phone inquiries. The TRC also provides extensive print materials available in the TRC’s Distance education library collection or through the Online@SUNYBroome’s webpage.
In addition to the faculty support provided on campus by the Teaching Resource Center, SUNY Broome is a member campus of SUNY Online. The membership provides SUNY Broome with off-site support services such as a faculty and student helpdesk, application and hosting support, educational services and marketing.
