Options for Faculty Roles in Brightspace

One of the benefits of Brightspace is our ability to assign different roles to users within our Course Offerings. Please remember to use our Instructional Designer Support Request Form when requesting that a colleague be added to your course and be sure to specify both role and the course to which you would like them added. You must be logged into your SUNY Broome Google Account in order to complete the form. Below, please find the description of each role that is available as well as a summary table of the specific permissions each role has assigned to it.

Course Copier
This role is for users to review and copy content from a colleague’s course into their course (with the instructor’s permission). This is a read-only role that allows the user to view the above identified content.
Instructor
This role is for the primary instructor of a course. This is a course builder/developer role that allows the user to create, add, publish, edit, delete, import/export/copy content, post and grade in all of the areas described above.
Peer Observer
This role is for colleagues, department chairs, deans and or other designated individuals to view a course (with the instructor’s permission). This is a read-only role that allows the user to view the above identified content and student activity. This role is most often used for Peer/Chairperson classroom observation of online courses.
